Multi currency accounts

Multi-Currency Accounts let a business hold funds in multiple currencies, manage its own balances, convert funds when needed, and pay its own recipients directly from those balances. This reduces the need to fund each transaction separately and gives the business control over when and how it converts currencies. A balance can be used as the settlement source for a spot or forward contract, or as the delivery destination for the bought currency.

Available balance: The portion of funds currently accessible for making payments from the total currency account balance.
Total balance: The full amount of funds in the currency account, including the available balance and any funds that will become available for payment at a future date.

Current currency and corridor availability

Warning

Multi-Currency Account functionality is not available in the UK or EU regions.

As of March 2026, Corporate Currency Accounts are currently enabled across the CA, NZ, AU and US regions for the following balance currencies:

EUR, NZD, PLN, NOK, GBP, SEK, SGD, CHF, AUD, HUF, CZK, HKD, JPY, DKK, CAD, USD and THB.

For the most up to date list of supported currencies, please visit our Help Centre.

These currencies describe what a business may be able to hold; they do not guarantee that every country-to-country top-up, conversion or payment corridor is available. Availability depends on the business’s account configuration, currency pair, destination country, amount and delivery method. Use the account, settlement-options and quote responses as the source of truth for the requested route.

Additional payout-only currencies: AED, ILS, KWD, OMR and PHP may be supported for configured payments from a balance, but are not supported as sell currencies for balance funding. MXN, ZAR, CNY, QAR and RON remain corridor- or configuration-dependent rather than generally available for holding.

Top up a balance

Top up one of the business’s currency balances by buying currency with an external funding method or by exchanging funds from another balance. Create a quote with the currency account as the delivery destination, then complete the resulting spot or forward contract using the applicable settlement method.

POST /v2/fxquotes
  • Settlement: Use the existing spot-payment or forward-payment flow to settle the contract.
  • Delivery: Set delivery to FundsOnBalance so the converted funds are credited to the selected currency balance.
  • Funding from outside the account: Use the supported settlement options, such as bank transfer or direct debit, where available.

Convert between balances

Convert funds held in one currency balance into another currency balance. The business can choose when to convert, subject to the currencies and corridors enabled for its account.

POST /v2/fxquotes
  • Set the source currency as the settlement currency and the destination currency as the delivery currency.
  • Use FundsOnBalance for the settlement and delivery methods.
  • Complete the contract through the existing spot-payment or forward-payment flow, depending on the contract type.

Pay from a balance

Use funds already held in the business’s currency balance to pay its own beneficiary or recipient. The business creates a quote and contract, then attaches payment instructions for delivery to the beneficiary’s bank account.

  1. Create a spot or forward quote for the required currency pair.
  2. Create and settle the contract using the source currency balance with FundsOnBalance.
  3. Attach payment instructions and deliver the funds to the beneficiary's bank account.
POST /v2/paymentInstructions

The payment instruction and settlement steps reuse the existing payment and settlement functionality; the currency balance is the source of funds rather than a separate transaction-by-transaction funding transfer.

Important

Balance functionality described on this page applies only to spot and forward contracts. It is not available for, and does not apply to, mass payment contracts, which continue to use their existing funding, settlement, and payment flows.
